Introduction

Pemba Islamic College is a government educational institution of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar under the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. The college is located in Kiuyu Mbuyunui Ward, Micheweni District, North Region Pemba, five kilometers from the Micheweni District headquarters.

The college was officially established in 2000 as a secondary school for religious and Arabic studies, following the advice of the leadership of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) which visited the Zanzibar Islamic College in 1994 to the then President of Zanzibar, H.E. Dr. Salmin Amour Juma, to build another similar college on Pemba Island.

History & Milestones

Our college has a rich history of development and growth since its establishment. Here are the key milestones in our journey:

1994

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) leadership visited Zanzibar Islamic College and advised President Dr. Salmin Amour Juma to establish a similar institution in Pemba.

2000

The college was officially established as a secondary school for religious and Arabic studies.

2004

Registered students for Advanced Level secondary education.

2006

Teacher training programs were officially launched.

Present

The college has been separated administratively from the secondary school and now focuses exclusively on providing teacher training programs.
